One Pot Synthesis of 3, 4-Dihydropyrimidin - 2(1H) - Ones Catalyzed by Aluminium Sulphate: an Improved Procedure for the Biginelli Reaction

A simple effective synthesis of 3, 4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one/thione derivatives using Aluminium sulphate (Al2 (sO4)3.18H2O) catalyst from aromatic aldehydes, 1, 3-dicarbonyl compounds & (thio)urea in glacial acetic acid is described. Compared with the classical Biginelli reaction conditions, this new method has the advantage of excellent yield and short reaction time.
