ABSTRACT:

Polysaccharide was extracted from Acrocarpus fraxinifolius Wight. seeds yielded a water soluble sugar as D-galactose and D-mannose in 1:3 molar ratio. Polysaccharide upon partial acid hydrolysis affords mainly 3 disaccharides and one trisaccharide as: (I) a-D-galactopyranosyl-(1®6)-O-a-D-mannopyranose, (II) a-D-mannopyranosyl-(1®6)-O-a-D-mannopyranose, (III) b-D-galactopyranosyl-(1®4)-O- b-D-mannopyranose and (IV) b-D-mannopyranosyl-(1®4)-O-b-D-mannopyranosyl-(1®4)-O-b-D-mannopyranose. Oligosaccharides results corroborate the earlier proposed structure of seeds polysaccharide.
