Synthesis of 2,4-disubstituted-1, 5-benzothiazepine (2a-e) is reported by the condensation of 2-aminothiophenol (1) with 1,3-diketones in pyridine which posses better pharmacological activity. The structure of newly synthesized compounds have been elucidated by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectral studies. Newly synthesized compounds were screened for antibacterial activity.
