Synthesis and Characterization of two Isomers of 2-Methylcyclopentane-1,2,3-Triol

2-Methylcyclopent-2-enone (1) was subjected to oxidation with OsO4/ NMO / Py followed by reduction with NaBH4 in methanol to yield two triols which were separated as acetate derivatives (3) and identified from NOE and then hydrolyzed to obtain two triol isomers (4).
