ARS combines with Fe (III) in the presence of 1,10-Phen- to form a coloured ternary complex having a molar absorptivity of 3.0x10-4 mole-1 cm-1 at pH 5.0 and lmax 510 nm. Complex contains three molecules of 1,10-Phen co-ordinated to an Fe (III) ion and two molecules of ARS through ion association giving the overall formula Fe (III) (ARS)2 (Phen)3. Beer’s law is followed from 0.0447 – 3.7976 ppm and Sandell’s sensitivity 0.0047 n/cm2.
