The macros and microscopical characters of the whole plant including, physical constant, extractive value, behavior on treatment with different chemical reagents, fluorescence characters were studied under U.V (254) after treatment with different reagents of the powdered plant of Trianthema portulacastrum Link. The microscopical study of root extract of T. portulacastrum Link was investigated for it’s antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa at 200μg/disc using disc diffusion method. The extract showed significant anti bacterial activity and were comparable to cotrimoxazole 60μg/disc. Our findings confirm the traditional therapeutic claims for this herb.
