An ethanolic extract containing a combination of Withania somnifera and Ocimum sanctum was investigated for its antistress activity in rats. Stress was induced by cold swimming for 5 hrs. Stress induced gastric ulceration and biochemical studies in rats were used to evaluate the antistress activity of the combined extract. The investigation revealed that the extract under investigation exerts significant antistress activity in the dose used. However the combined extract was found to be ineffective on a single acute administration.
