Reactions of dimethyl sulphite with pyridine, a-picoline, b-picoline and g-picoline yield products of the type Me2SO3. Amine. These products have been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductances, molecular weights and spectral data, I.R., PMR, which indicate the transfer of methyl group from dimethylsulphite to nitrogen of amine giving rise to ionic products of the formula (Amine. CH3)+(CH3SO3)-.
