Pollution Status of Narmada River at Omkareshwar

ABSTRACT:

An attempt has been made to asses physico chemical and conentration of trace metal in water of Narmada River at Imkareshwar. This study evaluate physico chemical properties of water Narmada river, covering three sampling stations during June 2005 to Sept 2005. The result indicate that the Omkareshwar place is in serious grip of water pollution. The suspended solids are found to exceed the permissible limits at most of the locations. The main toxic metals namely Fe, Cu, Ni, Cr, Zn Hg and Pb studied and sampled at three different sites, Site wise trace maetal load was observed at A2 and A3, these sites were polluted sites and these are not suitable for domesicm, irrgation and other, purpose, making it essential to devised suitable startegiers so as to protect the river from the onslaught pollution.
