The syntheses, characterization, and electronic spectra of a series of six ethers (12-crown-4, 15-crown-5, benzo-15-crown-5, 18-crown-6, dibenzo-18-crown-6, dicyclohexyl-18-crown-6) complexes of chromium(III) are described. All six Cr(III) complexes have the general formula CrLCl3; and potentially tetra-, penta- and hexadentate ether ligands all function as tridentate ligands coordinating to a single metal center. The structure of these complexes are determined by elemental analysis, UV/Vis and IR spectra.
