ABSTRACT:

Defluoridation capacity of Tamarindus indica commonly known as Imli has been investigated during the course of present study. The studies were done to observe the defluoridation capacity of different parts of the plant and it was observed that fruit powder has maximum capacity of defluoridation at room temperature. Defluoridation capacity decreases in the order fruit > flower > seed coat> seed > leaf. The investigations were extended for other parameters like pH, conductance, COD, metal ion concentration (Ca2+, Mg2+) anion concentration (Cl-, NO3-, CO32-) etc. Maximum decreases in concentration of metal ions and anions was also observed in case of fruit powder.
