Estimation of Rofecoxib in Bulk Drugs And in Dosage Forms by Rp-Hplc

A reverse phase high performance liquid chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method has been developed for the estimation of Rofecoxib in bulk as well as in pharmaceutical dosage forms. The quantification was carried out using a Partisil C-18 octa decyl silane column 250mm x 4.6 mmi.d, 5μm particle size in isocratic mode, with mobile phase comprising acetonitrile and water in the ratio 60: 40(v/v). Glibenclamide was used as internal standard. The detection was carried out at 240 nm and the linearity was found to be in the range of 0.1-40 μg/ml. The proposed method was found to be simple, precise and hence can be applied for routine quality control analysis of Rofecoxib in bulk drugs and in pharmaceutical dosage forms.
