Synthesis of Novel 2-Amino-4-(4′-Methoxy) Phenyl-5,10-Dihydropyrimido [4′,5′:5,4]-Cyclopent [B] Indoles and Acetylderivatives of Cyclopent [B] Indoles

Mixed aldol reaction of 1-oxo-1,2,3,8-tetrahydrocyclopent[b]indoles (1a-e) with 4-methoxybenzaldehye afforded 2a-e in good yield which were further condensed with guanidine nitrate to produce the titled compounds 2-amino-4-(4'-methoxy) phenyl-5,10-dihydropyrimidol[4',5':5,4]cyclopent [b] indoles (3a-e). In another attempt, the same 1-oxo-1,2,3,8-tetrahydrocyclopent[b] indoles (1a-d) were treated with a mixture of glacial acetic acid and polyphosphoric acid with an interest to get 5,10-dihydro-2-methyl-4-oxopyrano[2',3':5,4]cyclopent[b] indoles (5a-d). Instead, acetyl derivatives of 1a-d were obtained.
