Reaction of benzotriazol with ethyl chloroacetate under reflux condition gave benzotriazolo acetate 2 which on amination with hydrazine hydrate afforded (aceto hydrazido) benzotriazole 3. The compound 3 on condensation with various substituted aromatic aldehydes yielded arylidene aceto hydrazido benzotriazole 4 in the yields varying from 60-75%. Antibacterial and antifungal activities of 4 are reported.
