A spectrophotometric method for the detection of hexavalent chromium is described. This method is based on the oxidation of rhodamine 6G by chromium (VI) in sulphuric acid medium. The decreased in absorbance of dye is directly proportional to the amount of chromium (VI) present in the system. Beers law is obeyed in the range of 0.0-0.8 mg/l of Cr(VI). Effect of various foreign in has been evaluated. Few water samples were also analysed.
