Coordination compounds of tolbutamide,1-Butyl-3- (p-tolyl sulphonyl)—urea, (trade name, Restinon), an oral hypoglycemic agent, with iron and cobalt were synthesised and characterised, which indicate 2:1 ratio between ligand and metal. Analytical data and IR spectral studies confirm structure (II) for the complexes. The IR data further confirm the involvement of (C-O), (SO2--N) groups and water molecules in coordination.
