A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method based on precipitation reaction has been described for the estimation of Losartan (LSP), Risperidone (RSP) and Cefixime (CFX) in pure form and in their formulations. LSP, RSP or CFX form insoluble molecular complexes with alkaloid precipitant, phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) under acidic conditions. In addition, colour reaction has been combined to estimate the precipitant (and in turn the drugs) by releasing with acetone from the complex. It is based on the colour formation of PMA with cobalt nitrate-ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid disodium salt complex [Co(II)-EDTA, lmax 750 nm]. The results obtained are reproducible and are statistically validated.
