Synthesis And Characterization of Some Lanthanide(Iii) Coordination Compounds of 4[N-(3'-Nitrobenzalidene) Amino] Antipyrine Thiosemicarbazone

A series of sixteen coordination compounds of trivalent lanthanides with 4[n-(3-nitrobenzalidene) amino] antipyrine thiosemicarbazones (3'NO2BAAPTS) have been synthesized and characterized. All the coordination compounds have the general composition Lnx3,2(3'-NO2BAAPTS) (where Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy or Ho; X = Cl or NCS). All the compounds are non-electrolytes. The infrared studies indicate that 3'-NO2BAAPTS acts as tridentate (N,N,S) in these compounds. The magnetic moment and electronic spectral studies on these compounds have also been investigated.
