Reaction of 2-(2-Hydroxy phenyl) 1-H benzimidazole 1 with p-aminobenzoic acid and aromatic aldehydes in ethanol furnishes 1-(μ-p-carboxyphenyl-aminobenzyl) 2-(2-hydroxy phenyl) benzimidazole 2. Which on treatment with o-phenylene diamine in pyridine results in the formation of 1-(μ-p-benzimidazolyl-aminobenzyl) 2-(2-hydroxy phenyl) benzimidazole 3 in the varying from 60-65%. Antibacterial and antifungal activities of 3 were reported.
