ABSTRACT:

Ion-solvation behaviour of bromamine-T and dibromamine-T in various compositions of water + DMF conductometrically has been carried out conductometrically in the temperature range 283 to 313K. Conductance data were analysed by Kraus-Bray and Shedlovsky model of conductivity to obtain molar conductance at infinite dilution (lom) and ionisation constant Kc, limiting conductance of bromamine-T found to be higher than for dibromamine-T. Conductivity is found to decrease till about 80% DMF in the case of BAT with a later increase. The ionisation constant Kc, determined was found to decrease for the initial addition of DMF to water in the case of BAT and increased there onwards. Walden product, thermodynamics of solvation an Stoke's molecular radius have been computed for all the cases. Born model of solvation was verified. Positive slope obtained in the case of Walden Product vs. I/n indicated the preferential solvation of cation by the non-aqueous solvent.
