The spectrophotometric determination of the carbamate pesticide bendiocarb is proposed. The pesticide is hydrolysed in alkaline medium to phenol, which is coupled with diazotized 2,4-dinitroaniline to form the azo dye with an absorbance maximum at 510 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the range 2-20 μg/ml. The important analytical parameters and the optimum reaction conditions were evaluated. The method was applied to the determination of bendiocarb in spiked water and grain samples.
