The saturated ligand environment produced by various ligands containing nitrogen and oxygen donor atoms in 50% ethanol (V/V) around Nd(III), has been studied with respect to hypersensitive transition (4I9/2 2 4G5/2). The thermodynamics of hypersensitive transition have been studied and correlated with spectral parameters. The thermodynamic parameters include thermodynamic efficiency and partition function of the said transition.
