The essential oil of Hypericum perforatum L. was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The components of the oils were identified by their retention indices relative to C9-C28 n-alkanes, and by comparison of their mass spectra with those of authentic samples or with data already available in the literature. Thirty-nine components were identified in this oil. The most abundant compounds were hexadeconoic acid, carypohyllene oxide, n-tetradecanol, spathulenol, thymol and 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone, respectively.
