Complexes of Ni(II) and Cu(II) with Schiff bases; furfurylidene-m-phenylene diamine (FDMPDA) and furfurylidene-o-phenylene diamine (FDOPDA) have been synthesised. Complexes of NiII with (FDMPDA) (L) or (FDOPDA) (L1).-viz; [Ni (L or L1)2]Cl2, [Ni (L or L1)2 (NO3)2], [Ni(L or L1)2 (CH3 COO)2] and complexes of CuII with (FDMPDA) (L) or (PDOPDA) (L1), viz; [Cu(L or L1)2]Cl2, [Cu(L or L1)2 (NO3)2], [Cu(L or L1)2 (CH3COO)2] have been synthesised. Coordination through azomethine nitrogen and oxygen atom of furan ring have been proposed. Ligand field parameters, 1Hnmr and E.S.R. parameters for complexes have been evaluated. Antibacterial and antifungal activities of complexes have been evaluated.
