Praseodymium (III) and Neodymium (III) nitrate react with 2-substituted benzimidazole (L) viz: 2-(2'-hydroxynaphthyl) benzimidazole (HNBI) and 2-(2'- mercaptophenyl) benzmidazole (MPBI) to give the complexes of formula [ML2](NO3.)2]NO32H2O. These complexes have been characterised on the basis of elemental analysis, conductance measurement, IR and NMR spectral studies. The ligands and metal complexes were found to be antifungal against Alternaria alternata and Aspergillus niger.
