The kinetics of oxidation of Dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) by sodium N-Chlorobenzene sulphonamide or chloramine-B (CAB) has been studied in hydrochloric acid medium with Ru(III) as catalyst at 305K. The reaction rate shows a first order dependence on [CAB], fractional order on [DMSO], second order dependence on [H+] and fractional order on [Ru(III)]. Addition of halide ions and variation of ionic strength of the medium have no influence on the reaction rate. There is a positive effect of dielectric constant of the solvent. The value of catalytic constant were calculated at different temperatures.
