Electrochromatography of 24 amino acids on Whatman no. 1 and hydrous tin (IV) oxide impregnated papers was investigated. The effect of five background electrolytes (pH 2-6) on the electrophoratic migration of amino acids was studied. The mechanism of migration has been studied in terms of ion exchange and adsorption. On the basis of electrophoratic mobilities of amino acids some analytically important separations of amino acids on hydrous tin (IV) oxide impregnated papers are reported.
