The electronic absorption spectra of diphenyl amine molecule have been recorded with a view to study the solute-solvent interaction, oscillator strength and relative intensities in the solvents of different polarity viz- p-xylene, chloroform, amyl alcohol and concentrated sulphuric acid. The measured band shifts and their intensities provide evidence for assignment of the possible electronic transitions and nature of involved orbitals.
KEYWORDS:Solute-solvent interaction; oscillator strength; red shift; hydrogen bonding
