The effect of various factors, eg. sunlight in air, weather (day and night continuously), water and temperature on the tenacity and colour fastness of raw and degummed silk fibres (Improved multi-voltine and Nistary varieties) have been studied. All these factors influence the tenacity and colour of raw and degummed silk fibres. Loss in tenacity of raw silk is much more than that of degummed silk as the former contains sericin. Improved multi-voltine variety is better than the Nistary variety due to higher amount of fibroin in it. Cause of loss in tenacity and yellowing of silk fibre upon the effect of different factors have been discussed.
