The presence of chloro and azo moiety in different types of compounds have been found to exhibit pesticidal activity. Therefore keeping this is view eighteen new schiff bases have been synthesised by the reaction of 2-hydroxy -5-(p-chloro phenyl azo) benzaldehyde with several sulfonamide drugs and aromatic amines. All the new products were screened for their herbicidal activity on selected economically important weed and crop species. Some of the compound have shown good herbicidal activity on mini screen testing.
