A of new mixed ligand complexes of platinum(II) and gold(III) with homophthalic acid and nitrogen containing heterocyclic bases have been prepared. The complexes were isolated from the reaction in solid form and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, magnetic measurement, and infrared and electronic spectroscopic studies. The complexes have the composition; [M(hp).L2][M(hp)L(oxin)] and [M’(hp)2.L2[M’(hp)2(oxin)] where hp = homophthalic acid, M=Pt(II), M'=Au(III) and L=monodentate ligands and oxin = deprotonated 8-hydroxyquinoline. Platinum (II) complexes were found to be square planar whereas gold(III) complexes were octahedral.
