ABSTRACT:

Studies were carried out for the treatment of biomedical wastewater using anaerobic fixed film fixed bed bioreactor system of about of about 3.5 liters capacity. The support media used for microbial growth is nylon scrubbers. The substrate concentration applied to the reactor in terms of chemical oxygen demand or the detention time. The performance of the reactor with reference to the organic matter removal was studied for various detention times in the range of 0.5 to 2.5 days. A COD removal efficiency of 80% was observed for a detention period of 2 days with an organic loading of 0.66 kg CODr/m3.d.
