Reactions of [PtRX(DMSO)2] or [PtRX(COD)] with N~P at room temperature afford novel platinium (II) complexes of the general formula cis-[PtRX(N-P)n], where DMSO is dimenthylsulphoxide, COD is 1,5-cyclooctadiene, N~P is 2-methyl-6-(diphenylphosphinomethyl) pyridine, R = X = Me or CH2 Ph, n = 1; R=Me or Sn Me2 CI, X=CI, n=1; R=X=CI, n=2.The reaction of [PtMe(SnMe3) (COD)] with an excess of N-P at - 50oC leads to the formation of cis-[ptMe(SnMe3) (N-P)2] as a major product, together with other products, which cannot be prepared by other routes. The tin compound Sn Me2 Cl2 does not add oxidatively to the complex cis-[Pt Me2 (N-P) to give platinum (IV) analigue, as found previously with [PtMe2 (bipy)], but takes another routes to give the bridge complex Pt2 Me2 (m-Cl)2 (N-P)2]. The complexes have been charaterized physicochemically and spectroscopically.
