The study of oxidation of aniline with isoquinolinium chlorochromate showed first order kinetics in oxidant and in the substrate. Second order kinetics was observed In sulphuric acid. Added 'sodium chloride as well as sodium perchlorate was found to decrease the rate. Increase of percentage of acetic acid in the medium was found to increase the rate and linearly of 1/D versus log k plot indicated the reaction to be Ion-dipolar type. Evaluation of thermodynamic parameters indicated the formation of a protonated species and an intermediate that dimerises to give azobenzene.
