Variously substituted N-benzylidine anilines rapidly react with thioglycolic add to give the corresponding 2,3-diaryl-thiazolidine-4-ones. Addition of m-phenoxybenzaldehyde to 2,3-diarylthiazolidine-4-ones resulted in benzylidene derivatives of 2,3-diarylthiazolidine-4-ones. The physical and spectral data of the synthesised compounds were determined. The synthesised compounds were screened for their in vitro antibacterial and anti-HIV activity.
