Current literature survey has revealed that certain compounds bearing methoxy and substituted sulfonamide moiety along with azomethine linkage have pronounced pesticidal activity. Keeping this in view 16 new schiff bases bearing the above moieties have been synthesised by the reaction of 5-o, m and p-methoxy phenyl azo salicylaldehyde with substituted sulpha drugs and aromatic amines. Schiff bases having substituted sulpha drugs have shown good herbicidal activity.
KEYWORDS:Sulfonamide; Azomethine; herbicidal
