Some iodo-substituted 1,3-propanediones, flavones and 3,5-diarylisoxazoles were synthesised and tested for antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coll, Proteus mirabilis, Enterobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and antifungal activities against Curvularia and Colletotrichum. Title compounds were found effective against both bacteria and fungal species. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) were in the range of 12.5-50.0 μg/ml for Gram positive bacteria and 6.2 - 100.0 pg/ml for Gram negative bacteria. The percent spore germination inhibition of fungal organism was 86-100% for Colletotricum while 49-89% for Curvularia species.
KEYWORDS:Propanediones; diarylisoxazoles; synthesised Enterobacter
