Four Schiff bases derived from condensation of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and various primary amines like sulphanilic acid, o-amino phenol, p-aminophenol and p-aminobenzoic acid were synthesized. These Schiff base ligands were complexes with copper using aqueous copper acetate. The resultant copper complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductivity, electronic absorption spectra, infrared spectra, ESR spectral data and magnetic susceptibility data. The commercial application of ligands and copper complexes as antibacterial agents was studied. On the basis of results of experimental findings a probable geometry was assigned to the synthesized copper complexes.
KEYWORDS:Hydroxy; naphthaldehyde; p-aminophenol copper
