Celastrus paniculatus seeds has been found to contain calorie (5161 calorie/gm in defatted seeds) oil 51.04%, proteins 27.88%; carbohydrates 15.81%; ash 4.18%; moisture 3.75%. Various chromatographic techniques revealed the presence of lauric, stearic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic acids as the constituent fatty acids in the seed oil. Atomic absorption spectrophotometric analysis of seed ash indicated the presence of Cu++, Co++, Ni++, Pb++, Zn++, Fe+++, Na+ and K+ cations in it.
