Complexes of Rhodium (III) and Iridium (III) With Guanylurea

Guanylurea complexes of the type [M(Gu) ,CI )CI CH2O and [M(Gu)3,CI 3], (where M=Rh(lll), Ir (III), Gu = C 6N O have been successfully syntheslsed by the timplate synthesis using dicyandiamide and RhCI 3H O or IrCI3- (NH4)lrCl6 reduced with (NH )2C O H O. Dicyandiamide is found to hydrorysed to guanylurea in the presence of H* ion. The guanylurea, thus formed, then coordinate with the rhodium (III) or iridium (III) to form dichloro bis complex and the trischelate at pH~3.0 and -7.0 respectively. The chelation in these complexes involves coordinate C=0 group and NH group. The various diacido complexes of the type [M(Gu) X ]*, (X=Br. I, NO , SCN~) have oeen synthesised by anion substitution reaction with the five fold excess of NaX. These complexes seem to have cis- configuration with rhodium (III) a diazido a complex [Rh (Gu), (NjJCI and a mixed chelate [Rh(Gu) pic]'+ have also been isolated. The electronic absorption spectra and IR spectra have been used to characterize the complexes. Pyrolysis of the complexes shows that thermally the guanylurea complexes are relatively less stable than the corresponding biguanide analogues.
