The vanadium (V) catalysed oxidation of an oxazine dye, Gallamine blue by bromate has been utilized for the determination of nanogram amounts of Vanadium (V). The reaction was found to be first order in Gallamine blue, vanadium (V) and bromate and the rate of the reaction was found to have an inverse dependence on hydrogen ion concentration. A plausible mechanism has been proposed.
