The chemistry of epicuticular waxes of Avicennia marina (forsk) vierh, a mangrove plant is studied. The chloroform extract of the epicuticular waxes is fractionated with solvents like hexane. ethylene dichloride and methanol. The compounds present in various fractions are analysed by IR, NMR and GC-Ms studies. Several hydrocarbons, aldehydes. Ketones and pentacyclictriterpenols are identified and characterized.
KEYWORDS:pentacyclictriterpenols; fractionated dichloride
