ABSTRACT:

The root of Capparis stylosa is extracted with different solvents in a Soxhlet apparatus. The different extracts are dried and subjected to microbial assays. The petroleum ether and benzene residue have no inhibitory effect on the bacterial strains tested. Ethylene dichloride residue exhibits sensitivity against some bacterial strains, whereas acetone and methanol residue reveal potent antibacterial activity. The inhibition zones are measured and the antibacterial activity is compared in various fractions.
