A new sensitive spectrophotometry method for the quantitative estimation of cyanide in water based on reaction of copper sulphate and o-toluidlne with cyanideion to form o-toluidine blue is reported. This method has been successfully extended to estimate plasma cyanide levels in rats in vitro and in vivo after cyanide administration. A linear plot is obtained at 624 nm in the concentration range 6-50 ng ml-1.
