Some nickel (II) and cobalt (II) complexes of naphthalene analogues of 2'-hydroxychalcones have been synthesized and characterised. These complexes have the general formula ML2.2H2O, where, L is the deprotonated ligand. The naphthyl chalcone and M is the nickel (II) or cobalt (II) metal ion. In the present investigation, the lattice constants and long spacings of the nickel (II) and cobalt (II) complexes have been determined with the help of X-ray powder diffraction data. The Ni (II) complexes have the tetragonal unit cell whereas the Co(ll) complexes has the orthorhombic unit cell. On the basis of cell parameters, II has been concluded that these complexes have slightly better packing efficiency as compared to the corresponding Cu (II) complexes of the respective naphthyl chalcones. On the basis of diffraction order, it has been also concluded that these complexes have good crystallinity.
