In this study, investigations have been made for complexation of copper by glycine, α-alanine, β-alanine and aspartic acid as organic ligands in model systems similar to natural waters. Ion-selective electrode specific to copper has been used to differentiate between free and bound cupric ion in the model systems. The major inorganic complexing ligand in most natural waters being the hydroxide ion hence the present study has been carried out to establish relationship between free cupric ion at "arying levels of organic ligands and pH. The results depict the total copper in the model systems as partitioned into *ree, organically bound and inorganically bound hydroxy complexes.
