ABSTRACT:

In this study, investigations have been made tor complexation of copper by IDA, NTA and EDTA in model systems similar to natural waters. Ion-selective electrodes specific to copper has been used to differentiate between free and bound cupric ion in the model systems. The major inorganic complexing ligand in most natural waters being the hydroxide ion hence the present study has been earned out to establish relationship between free cupric ion at varying levels of organics and pH. The results depict the total copper in the model systems as partitioned into free, organically bound and inorganically bound hydroxy complexes.
