Gas chromatography with High efficiency packed columns has been found suitable for the rapid identification and quantification of hydrocarbons in crude oil using external and internal standards. The minimum and maximum detection limits for individual hydrocarbons have been reported through preparation of calibration curves. Hydrocarbons in crude oil have been identified based on their varying retention time and quantified using spiking recovery techniques. The extraction technique adopted led to 90% recovery of hydrocarbons from crude oil. Hydrocarbons C10,C12,C16,C19,C20,C24 and C28 are the predominant fiaciions in crude oil.
