A study was undertaken to get acquainted with the hydrochemistry of Kolar reservoir and its potability potential. This water body is situated on the river Kolar and serves the drinking water requirement of capital city, Bhopal, besides catering to irrigation need In the adjoining areas. The major contribution of pollutions in this reservoir is due to death and decay of vegetation and animals in the area. Other non-point pollution sources and activities add negligible to this aspect. Since water Is drawn from the bottom layer of the dam, separate consideration of hypolimnion and epittmnioo layers become ol key importance in the study. Results reveal that the hypolimniomc zone is comparatively more polluted than of surface layer. All the studied parameters showed high concentration in the bottom layer and low concentration in surface layer .The study reveals the health condition or the water body as tar as its potability pertinence is concerned.
