3,4,5-Trimethoxybenzaldehye thiosemicarbazone (TBTSC) forms a yellow coloured chloroform-soluble complex with (IV) in acidic medium. The complex exhibits absorption maximum at 370 nm with molar absorptivity of 7.7 x 1041 mol-1 cm-1. The system obeys Beer's law over the concentration range of 1 -15 ppm. The Sandell's sensitivity is 13.34 ng. cm-2. This is used as a reagent lor extractive spectrophotometric determination of platinum (IV) in alloy compositions.
